Polly Fabrizio

Polly Fabrizio has been painting for about five years. Most of her business career was spent communicating verbally: through journalism, advertising, marketing, and strategic planning.

“Writing came very easily to me and was a big part of every job I found myself in. Although I had always thought: I’ll write when I retire, I quickly discovered that when faced with the time to write anything I wanted, the very thought of writing bored me silly... and what was more, I found words inadequate to embody what I really wanted to say; and so I began to paint...”

Fabrizio grew up in Iowa and has lived on both coasts. She is a graduate of Arizona State University; taken additional course work at Iowa State University and finished an executive MEP from the University of Minnesota. She started her career in educational television and media production, and then joined Sunoco in Philadelphia. Having spent many years as a marketing adviser to engineering consulting firms, she has traveled extensively. She lives in Pearce, Arizona, with her husband, Frank, and two Belgian Malinois. 

Polly Fabrizio works primarily in watercolor. Her paintings can be found at the Watercolor Work Shop in Studio III in Pearce, Arizona, and in the gift gallery at the Produce Wagon also located in Pearce.

Polly Fabrizio writes about her art

Stan Freberg once replied to a question about whether television was a creative medium: “Yes. Television is a creative medium. It stretches the imagination. Up to twenty-one inches.”

Words, too, are like that. Explicitly implicit, words confine. Most of my career has been in journalism, marketing, and strategic planning. In the word game. Drafting talking points and explaining away the riddles. 

I’d rather explore the riddles. For me, painting, especially watercolor, allows me to escape the talking points. Watercolor makes me think. I love the way the water echoes my thoughts and then unexpectedly: flows in a whole new way. Posing a whole new riddle. Posing a whole new set of problems with pigment on the paper.

The water leads me to explore areas of thought previously unconsidered ...to capture a sense of the unknown... The water sets me a riddle. Creating a mystery. And, when all is said and done, it is mystery that stirs the brain; that triggers new ideas; and that drives change.

Driving change is what I’ve always been about. It is why I now paint. It is why I share my painting. Art stirs up the riddles! Enjoy!

The Watercolor Work Shop is located in Pearce-Sunsites, Arizona, and is my studio; provides space for classes, seminars, and artshops; and is a backdrop and store for recent work of mine and of students.
